New York, Boston, Niagara Falls - Day 1

New York, Boston, Niagara Falls - Day 1

5.20 am 22 June 2014

We're up after less than six hours sleep following the Peak 30th anniversary do which was enjoyable - Elvis Schmelvis for part of the entertainment was particularly good and I was suitably embarrassed by an announcement about my forthcoming birthday. Steve also called up to the dance floor so we could have a slow dance while Elvis sang Blue Hawaii (at least the location was Stateside!)

Excitement is somewhat tempered by Steve having a cold and my bladder symptoms flaring up again but I'm sure we'll still manage to enjoy ourselves. First leg of the journey starts in a few minutes - off to Heathrow :-)

8.10 am

Arrived at Heathrow with plenty of time, bags checked in, through security with minimal problem - Steve had to go through full body scanner because he forgot to take his watch off! Now awaiting breakfast. Flight is delayed by 1 1/2 hours so we have plenty of time.

Breakfast: S - Good Morning Wake Up smoothie (pineapple, pear, banana, papaya, orange), Shakshouka hash, American. C - fresh pink grapefruit juice, buttermilk pancakes with strawberries, orange segments, toasted pumpkin seeds and maple syrup, Tea.

11.15pm (UK time), 6.15pm (New York time) - finally arrived at our hotel. Flight delayed over 2 hours in the end. Smooth flight - I took the opportunity to watch Captain Phillips, Steve watched some other thriller. Initially thought it would take a couple of hours to get through security as only 1 desk was open but thankfully they opened some more and it speeded up. The railway station at Newark airport Nissan currently closed so we had to get a shuttle bus to the next station before getting the train through to Penn station. Our hotel is just across the road from there. Now going to freshen up and go find somewhere to eat before we flake out!

8.40 (in New York) Back at the hotel after having a pizza between us with some fries at the Flying Puck bar opposite the hotel, while watching the 2nd half of USA v Portugal. Many enthusiastic USA fans in the bar! In UK time we were having a bite and a drink at 1:40 in the morning. The beer was Captain Lawerence IPA. If you are reading this then I have figured out how to do another post and we have wifi connection (it's not free in our room so have to come down to the lobby where  it is free for 1 hour).

Tomorrow,  maybe an open top bus tour to get some bearings and a visit to Tiffany's :-)

Catherine & Steve xxxx
